Cathay Pacific was established in 1946 by American Roy C. Farrell and Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow. They named it Cathay Pacific because Cathay was the ancient name of China and Farrell speculated that they would fly across the Pacific one day.The airline provides services to 114 destinations in 36 countries worldwide, with a fleet of 126 wide-body aircraft. Its wholly-owned subsidiary, Dragonair operates to 29 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region from Hong Kong. Pacific Cathay is now considered as one of the premiere Asian airlines and is one of only four airlines that has been awarded a 'five-star' rating from Skytrax.
