Royal Jordanian (RJ) was founded in 1963 under the name 'Alia' and was one of the first airlines in the MENA region. Being the national airline of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Jordanian Government accounts for a 29% of the airline's holding. In late 2006, Royal Jordanian was entitled the 'Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation' award for "Airline Turnaround of the Year 2006", whilst in 2007 the airline was voted "Airline of the Year 2007" by Air Finance Journal.
